Sometimes you just need a little help from your friends.

Serena Williams opened up about her close relationship with Meghan Markle on Australian news program The Sunday Projecon Sunday (September 23).

“We were actually just texting each other this morning,” the 23-time grand slam champion said. “We have known each other for a long time, but we really are kind of relying on each other a lot recently,” she added with a laugh, seemingly referencing her recent controversial US Open loss and the Duchess of Sussex’s almost-constant drama with her father Thomas Markle's family.

The tennis champion also agreed with interviewer Lisa Wilkinson when she said she thought that Megan and Serena, who reportedly became friends in 2010, were probably the most scrutinized women in the world.

Earlier this month, Serena wrote of a message of support to Meghan after the release of the Duchess' new cookbook, which she produced with a group of women who were affected by the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017. "I used to call you Meghan (and I still do) but dear Duchess of Sussex your first project 'Together' a cookbook bringing women of all cultures together. I could not be more excited about it and proud of you," Serena wrote on Instagram. "It’s beautiful - diversity, inclusivity, coming together in grief or joy - there is just so much love."

During the interview, Serena also discussed her experience attending Meghan's royal wedding to Prince Harry in May. "The whole service was really wonderful and most of all I just wanted to see my friend be happy and I think that's what happened," she said. "I felt like we were literally watching history. And I feel like in a few years we are going to look back at that moment and it’s going to be so historic that ― it’s going to be something that people never forget.”
