Carolines On Broadway Closing Down After 40 Years - Here's Why

WOW we really lost a good one here 😔 after giving us 40-years of real LOLs in New York City, Carolines on Broadway will be shutting it's doors in Time Square.

Owner Caroline Hirsch told The Post:

"I did not renew my lease. New Year’s Eve will be our last night. My landlord felt they can get a lot more for the space.
New Year’s Eve will be our last night.
This is heart-stabbing for me. I love my staff. I love my comedians. I’m on to something new — likely an expansion of the Carolines brand. I see this as not the end of Carolines, but a new chapter continuing to produce world-class comedy."

Hirsch broke the sad news to stunned staff Tuesday afternoon.

Carolines first opened as a small cabaret club in the Chelsea neighborhood in 1982. The comedy acts included now legendary performers (see list below) and it wasn’t long before Carolines became a full-fledged comedy club. As the popularity of stand-up surged throughout the 1980s, so did the popularity of Carolines, which became THE place to see live comedy in NYC.

Comedians to have graced the Carolines stage: Jerry Seinfeld, Kevin Hart, Gilbert Gottfried, Mo Amer, Lewis Black, Katt Williams, Billy Crystal, Charlie Murphy, Jon Stewart, Tracy Morgan, Larry David, Katt Williams, Joy Behar, Tommy Davidson, Jimmy Fallon, JB Smooth, Michael Che, Marlon Wayans, Robin Williams, Dre Fraserm Conan O'Brien + thousands more!

We're hoping they re-open at a different location so folks can get their jobs back and cause good times at Caroline's is just part of NYC 🗽🍎🚕
