BE CAREFUL TRAVELING THIS WEEK...

FROM KWQC TV-6

The First Alert Forecast from Meteorologist Kevin Phelps

A First Alert Day is in effect through 6 this evening for blowing and drifting snow and very windy conditions.  The arctic front will work its way into the area between 7AM-10AM.  This will bring in wind gusts of 50mph in some areas making travel very difficult due to blowing and drifting snow.  Highs near 30° will occur this morning and drop to the teens this afternoon.  Life threatening cold will then highlight our weather the rest of the week.  Another arctic front will arrive late Tuesday into Wednesday.  This will bring another around of windy conditions and well below zero temps.  We are talking near all-time record lows in our area (near -30°) with wind chills as cold as -55°!  Daytime highs on Wednesday will only reach around -10° which means snow covered roads are likely because chemicals and salt will be ineffective.  With temps this cold, many cars will not be able to start, water mains will break and frozen pipes in your home are possible.  This will likely be a cold snap that we will be talking about for the rest of our lives.

TODAY: Windy with blowing snow. 34°↓ Winds: NW 30-40 mph.

TONIGHT: Cold.  Low 0°.  Winds: NW 15-25 mph.
