Imagine trying to update your driver's license to find out you were charged with felony embezzlement because you forgot to return a VHS tape! Well, this is exactly what happened to Caron McBride. McBride went to update her driver’s license in Texas, but was told she “had an issue in Oklahoma,” where she previously lived that needed to be resolved before she made the updates. When she called the Cleveland County District Attorney’s Office, she was told she was charged with felony embezzlement charges because she hasn’t returned a Sabrina the Teenage Witch VHS that she rented 21 years ago. McBride told FOX 25 Tuesday that she doesn't remember ever renting the movie.
"I had lived with a young man, this was over 20 years ago. He had two kids, daughters that were 8, 10 or 11 years old, and I'm thinking he went and got it and didn't take it back or something. I have never watched that show in my entire life, just not my cup of tea. Meanwhile, I'm a wanted felon for a VHS tape."
Even though the movie place shut down in 2008, Cleveland County could've still prosecuted the case because charges and a warrant was filed against McBride, but the DA's office ended up review McBride's case and dismiss it. However, McBride will need to get her case expunged in order to clear her record moving forward.
What would you do if this happened to you?!
